MazzMat commented 1 year ago

When mac client is opened on my Mac and someone write me a message, he sees me instantly "online", message is marked as read and I don't receive any notification.

All ok when client is not running on Mac Also ok using Telegram Desktop https://desktop.telegram.org/

Telegram Swift version 9.0.1.237033 Stable Mac Monterey 12.6

firatciftci commented 1 year ago

I am also experiencing this issue on Telegram Swift version "9.0.1.237033 AppStore". I am on macOS 12.6.

If the app is closed to the backgroung (not fully quit) while a window is open, the app behaves as if that same chat window has stayed open, even though the UI shows that chats are unselected (i.e. no chat window has focus) when the app is reopened. The issue goes away if you press escape (thus unfocusing on the current chat window) before closing the app to the background.

Same issue here with macOS 12.6 and Telegram Desktop 9.0.1.237033 AppStore

cdubz commented 1 year ago

Also experiencing this issue and did some testing...

The earliest version to have this behavior is 9.0.1.237000. From that version on if a message is sent to the last conversation I had opened before closing the Telegram window I immediately re-appear as "online" in that conversation, all messages are marked as "seen" by me, and I do not get any system notifications of new messages.

There is also an earlier, slightly different version of this bug that was introduced in 8.8.232774. From that version up to 9.0.1.237000 if a message is sent to the last conversation I had opened before closing the Telegram window I immediately re-appear as "online" in that conversation, the first message is marked as "seen" by me, and I do not get any system notifications for it but all subsequent messages remain marked as "unseen" (until I actually see them) and I do get system notifications.

The last version I found without this bug is 8.8.232592. From that version and below new messages are not marked as seen unexpectedly, I remain as offline when I am offline, and I get system notifications for all new messages.

Hope that helps with troubleshooting! And you can download the last version without this bug (8.8.232592) from the Telegram Beta app center (no direct link available).

Same issue here with macOS 12.5.1 and latest Telegram 9.0.1 from the AppStore.

I was struggling with this issue for a few weeks on macOS but found out a temporal solution while new version with a fix is coming.. Just minimize client and you will get rid of auto-reads and notifications should come.

effektsvk commented 1 year ago

@overtake I installed the latest beta but the bug still persists

cdubz commented 1 year ago

The current beta version is from before this bug was reported and fixed. I assume overtake's comment means the fix will come in the next beta.

effektsvk commented 1 year ago

Oh, yes, you're right. Sorry 😅

lecodeski commented 1 year ago

another workaround is to choose a very old chat, so, to move the apps channel focus to this; this way other channels don’t appear as focused and currently watched at; thus the app will notify you about new messages in your „main“ chats

netnothing commented 1 year ago

Same thing here for 9.0.1.237033 Stable macOS.

If I close the window (red traffic light), I don't receive any notifications for incoming chats. If I minimize the window (yellow traffic light), I receive notifications.

Meta: is anyone here an admin in the Telegram bugs & suggestions tracker?

7+ reports and counting. Perhaps this GitHub issue, which is sometimes but not always linked in the reports, can be given as an official response. Or at least the reports can be merged.

I want to report I'm experiencing the same on iOS 15. Guess the same bug is shared across the Apple apps, as I write here https://bugs.telegram.org/c/21290.

Thanks for acknowledging my bug report! 👏

Same here for 9.0.1.237033 monterey 12.6.

jamesb93 commented 1 year ago

Same. Is plaguing all my devices.

dwhoop55 commented 1 year ago

Same here for 9.0.1 on macOS 12.4

jaredallard commented 1 year ago

Same here, it's been driving me crazy. Had to switch off of Telegram for a bit because of this

TheFabbiusCorp commented 1 year ago

It seems that this repo is not used for development, so I guess the next beta will be released randomly during the next month or so. Do you know if there is a way to downgrade from the App Store instead of uninstalling and downloading a previous beta?

Nemesis19 commented 1 year ago

Guess u can from this link https://install.appcenter.ms/users/keepcoder/apps/telegram-swift/distribution_groups/public

Has anyone else had this bug seemingly re-appear recently?

MacOS device: 9.3.1.241825 AppStore — MBA M1 on macOS 12.6.3 iOS device: 9.3.2 (24887) — iPhone 12 Pro on iOS 16.3

macOS Telegram client was open, but minimized. Hours later, one contact's messages have all been read (double-ticked / double-checked). Interestingly, the iOS notification had not been dismissed.

ikjadoon commented 1 year ago

Someone on bugs.telegram.org also reported this bug returning last week:

Seems fixed to me, I didn't have this for couple months.
