Since I started using emacs live a couple of years ago, I would use the live packs until I had to hack a bug or feature then I would switch to the dev packs. I would always switch to dev for foundation-pack and any other pack I was hacking. When checking out some ediff bugs recently (#153), I started thinking: should I be switching entirely to dev packs? Or should mixing and matching be okay? (I'm assuming the only pack that is a dependency for other packs is foundation-pack?
@cassiel tells me that he used to mix dev/live packs and ran into some trouble, so I'm assuming I should not be doing this and so will close this issue.
