Bonjour,

Hi,

Since you missed the Q2-2022 planned introduction, please let us know at least the new ETA for a Windows Server 2022 template for your dedicated servers.

The answer I have received so far, after asking (too) many times, was that "we can't provide an availability date" which is very disappointing. As Gilles hypothesizes above, one may start to think that your custom servers have compatibility issues (due to special Windows Server 2022 hardware requirements) since other major players like Leaseweb have a working template for their Dell servers since many months but OVH hasn't even an ETA to provide.

andrewkm commented 2 years ago

Would really love to use Windows Server 2022 as well here with your dedicated servers.

bronxzv commented 2 years ago

we are now more than one year after general availability of the OS, maybe time to at least:

Pretty ridiculous at this point. @raph-a-l

Pretty ridiculous at this point. @raph-a-l

borderline illegal (L. 121-2 du code de la consommation) when you read this

"All of our dedicated servers can be used with the latest Windows operating system versions. This delivers the reliability of a popular OS, as well as a panel of ready-to-use operating systems for your business."

Thank you for your feedbacks. We know we are running late on introducing Win2022 in our baremetal catalogue. Good news is this will be released very soon within the next couple of days. This delay between editor's release date and OVHcloud template is due to some internal arbitration, and not linked with compatibility issue. As a general rule current servers eligible to Win2016 or Win2019 will be eligible to Win2022.

Thanks for this first information. Will a server recently hired in WS 2019 can migrate to WS 2022 ? How ? What about the license ? Gilles

I've already begun moving my 6+ dedicated servers to another host. OVH is becoming a joke.

Thank you for the information, glad that my servers with an 1-year renewal period paid in advance are already compatible.

Now, this looks weird to me that a top tier provider like OVH is nearly 1 year later than competitors such as LeaseWeb on such a very basic service advertised on their site due to lack of staff and at the same time providing quantum computers in their cloud infrastructure AFAIK.

Also not being able to provide an ETA until a "couple of days" before availability is arguably very unprofessional.

started to use LeaseWeb for our development servers requiring Windows Server 2022, the problems for production servers is that we have yearly renewals with OVH and quite big amount on data on the servers, backup servers and NAS, all of this enjoying fast transfer within the OVH infrastructure but will be a pain to move to another provider

So it has been 12 days now, far greater then the "couple" of days originally quoted. Does OVH plan on getting it's act together sometime before this weekend?

andrewkm commented 2 years ago

@raph-a-l we share very different meanings of "next couple of days".

bronxzv commented 1 year ago

Raph probably confused "days" with "months" and/or there was some new "internal arbitration", it's not like proper Windows Server support is something important, at least they should remove the "latest Windows operating system versions" deceptive advertising from their website

BTW this ticket is still not assigned

timothy-adam commented 1 year ago

A month and change later and windows server 2022 is still not available. What kind of internal mess is ongoing to prevent this from being resolved?

andrewkm commented 1 year ago

May as well leave this one alone kids, not like OVH gives a shit Lmao.

w3lld0ne commented 1 year ago

I'm unsubscribing from the issue and moving completely away from OVH, kthxbye.

Windows Server 2022 is available from your Manager interface in the Licence menu for a month now.

You can order Windows Server 2022 licenses for your dedicated servers. Then, once your licence has been delivered, you will see your Windows Server 20022 OS listed on the OVH template list and you can proceed with installation.

Note: as a general rule current servers eligible to Win2016 or Win2019 will be eligible to Win2022.

timothy-adam commented 1 year ago

Why isn't it available on the page when ordering new servers?

I don't handle the billing for our servers, so I have to explain that I want these servers, then you also have to go into management and configure xyz and then well have what we want?

that's very cool Raph, though it's not yet listed here https://www.ovhcloud.com/en/bare-metal/os/, I'll suggest to update this page

FYI I tried to upgrade the license on one of my server from the manager but got nothing more than this very vague error message: "An error has occured loading the information"

trying to upgrade from "Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Standard Edition (8cores)" to "WINDOWS_SERVER_2022_STANDARD_EDITION_8_CORES", I'll try to get help from the assistance team but it looks like you still have to iron out some issues

andrewkm commented 1 year ago

Too little too late, I've already left OVH for providers that offer these things far faster to their customers.

OVH has already Windows Server 20022, how can you beat that ?
