MySQL, Postgres smaller offers (2GB and 4GB RAM) #220

User Story

As a customer, I want to find smaller and more affordable offers So that I can benefit from managed databases performances for my smaller projects (dev / poc purpose / admin tools) like the offers that are already available for MongoDB (#175). I believe that most of the MySQL, Postgres databases (especially for admin tools) are smaller than MongoDB ones.

Acceptance criterias

Great news. Any ETA ?

Great news.

@baaastijn Can you also provide a guide / way how to migrate the existing DBs? We have no access to the data dir, so pg_backup is not an option and with pg_dump it takes quite a while.

@baaastijn Is there any ETA? I would like to know, if i can wait for it.

Hello, We released yesterday offers with 4GB RAM for MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, OpenSearch, Grafana, Kafka, ... Pricing are available on website and control panel https://www.ovhcloud.com/fr/public-cloud/prices/

For 2GB RAM offers, it's still in discussion and keep the issue open for that

Hello, migrate from what to what ? Existing Public Cloud DB to another one ?

Currently there is no "migration" options. One way is to use the "fork" option from the last database backup. But this is quite non trivial as you don't know exactly when the backup is started... so you need to stop your application far earlier to ensure data reliable.

I agree that it would be great is we can "stop, migrate and start" the current DB cluster, in order to make migrations quite easy, fast and secure.

baaastijn commented 2 years ago

our idea what not with a stop but a "fork button" who will auto dump and restore when you click. so it's when you want, not when the backup is here

DB1-4 (4GB memory) are now generally available across most of our offers. As for DB1-2 they only are available for MongoDB and we do not plan to support them for other engines in the foreseeable future. The topic is still open for discussion though.
