Gear Manager stops working #2

Closed NakedFaerie closed 10 years ago

NakedFaerie commented 10 years ago

I installed the Gear Manager hider and it says the watch works fine. Not really true. Well yea the watch does work fine but Gear Manager will always say its disconnected and refuse to work.

owenworley commented 10 years ago

My note 3 does not have this issue, watch shows as connected and I can manage my apps fine.

What phone are you using? Which version of gear manager? Stock gear?

NakedFaerie commented 10 years ago

Hi, its the Galaxy S4 on 4.3 rooted with a stock Gear on latest firmware with latest Gear Manager.

owenworley commented 10 years ago

I will see if I can get hold of an s4 for testing, have you tried rebooting the phone?

NakedFaerie commented 10 years ago

Of course. You have to reboot to enable the plugin.

owenworley commented 10 years ago

Hmm, I'm not sure what is different between the s4 and note3 then, or if there are any changes with your phone. Just to check, it goes back to normal when you remove the module right?

I will ask around and see if I can get my hands on an s4 to test. Sorry

NakedFaerie commented 10 years ago

Yea it did go back to normal after renoving it.

owenworley commented 10 years ago

Do you know how to use adb?

If so, could you run: adb pull /data/app/com.samsung.android.app.watchmanager-1.apk and upload the file somewhere where I can download it (dropbox/filesend/whatever) so I can check that the gear manager app available to the s4 is the same as the note 3 one.

NakedFaerie commented 10 years ago

It should be the same as I got it from the Samsung App Store. Its the original not a copy

owenworley commented 10 years ago

Normally yes, but I know that it is possible for a developer to upload different apks on the play store for different devices (based on screen size or other criteria), perhaps samsung have a similiar system...

I just want to rule out that the apk I have is the same as the s4 apk.

NakedFaerie commented 10 years ago

I just installed it again, rebooted and it worked for a min then stopped again. The Gear is working fine, its all connected, S-Voice and contacts work so its proof its connected fine. When I click the Gear Manager icon on my phone its still saying Disconnected. After waiting for a few mins its now saying its connected. So it works but for some reason there is a delay before its saying connected.

I did upgrade from 4.2.2 to 4.3 a few days ago and there were bugs which I fixed but Gear Manager isn't a problem till now.

EDIT: It looks like every time I load up GM it says its disconnected and I have to wait a few mins for it to say its connected.

owenworley commented 10 years ago

Hmm, I just reread your comments and noticed that you are on 4.3, my note is on 4.4.2, perhaps that's what is causing the delay?

Well Im glad it is working for you, even if there is a delay.

Once it starts showing as connected does it stay connected? Is there the same delay everytime you open gear manager?

NakedFaerie commented 10 years ago

Yep. I just opened it and it said it was disconnected and had to wait about 1 min until it says its connected. When it did I closed it by going to task manager then I loaded it straight away and it again said it was disconnected.

NakedFaerie commented 10 years ago

I just uninstalled this and when I load up GM it is connected so this does have a problem with either 4.3 or the S4.

owenworley commented 10 years ago

I will try to track down an s4 running 4.3 to reproduce.

Are you planning to update to 4.4?

NakedFaerie commented 10 years ago

Not at all. I regret going to 4.3 as it was a lot better on 4.2.2 and because of Knox I cant downgrade like I should be able to.

owenworley commented 10 years ago

Hi again, recently Samsung pushed an update to gear manager to support the new gear 2 and gear fit.

I have updated the module to support the new gear manager app, could you tell me if you have this same issue with the new gear manager and version 1.1 of this module?

Thanks

NakedFaerie commented 10 years ago

I’ll give it a try but I’m not using the new manager as it’s got more bugs so I can’t use it. I’m waiting for the next version to come out then try that again hopefully that will remove the bugs in it. I’m still on v1.6 as the new manager is only 1.7 as the Gear 1 uses the old version anyway but 1.7 has lots of bugs. V2.0 is for the Gear 2 only that I’ve read and found out for myself.

The new gear manager app has actually split up the logic for the gear 1 into a seperate app/plugin.

As of last week, there is:

com.samsung.android.app.watchmanager which is the main gear manager app.

com.samsung.android.gear1plugin which is installed when a gear1 is detected.

There is only one gear manager app which now supports all the watches via plugin apps.

There is a reason that updates keep getting put out, staying on the old versions means you miss the bug fixes.

NakedFaerie commented 10 years ago

I've found the older version to be more stable and less bugs. There are Gear apps that just won't work with the new version. And It's not just the plugin, there are 2 gear managers. What I did was delete everything with the gear icon in app manager then installed GM2.0 and when it detects the gear it downloads and installs GM 1.7 which is the old black style so you never see the white version again. In app Manager there is a new GM which is v1.7 as v2 is now a different app which no longer loads. It's not the actual manager it's just the installer. It detects what gear you have and downloads the manager. Could be the plugin but I had a few of them. For some reason it still downloads the Gear 1, Gear 2 and Gear fit plugins.

In Samsung Apps I have 2 gear managers also. As I have GM1.6 installed its in my list of apps in SA. It also says there is another gear Manager to update so it's a stand alone app not an actual update to GM. I did find how to disable it but haven't done it for the new GM yet but did do it for the gear fit manager. What I did was download it then went to titanium and freeze the app. I then uninstalled it and now SA doesn't say it's there to update anymore as I don't have the. Gear Fit and won't be getting one so I never want that app. I will try today to do it to the new GM as it's always telling me there is an update but I don't want it as it's too buggy. If you look at the app in SA it says "preloaded" so it's just bloatware and not needed but I can't work out any other way to disable it other than freeze it in titanium and uninstall it that way.

The preloaded one is the stub app, it comes with touch wiz ROMs on phones that support the gear. This is how Samsung apps installer nows that your phone can update l/install gear manager, I dont know what (side)effects freezing it does.

With all latest from Samsung store, I have these installed:

When I look at the apps in android stick App Manager, I see Gear manager (2.0.1.4040401), Gear manager (1.0.02), Gear1 plugin (1.7.040401)

In titanium backup there is also a 'Update gear software' app.

The gear manager version 1.0.02 is a system app, built into the ROM (com.Samsung.android.app.watchmanagerstub).

Samsung apps detects this and shows the GM app as an update, but as its a system app with a different pacakgename, the managers are installed side by side.

This is normal, there should be 2 watcmanagers.

The gear1 plugin plugin is most of the code from the old gearmanager, but gear manager 2.0 is still the app that is loaded to talk to the gear, it just does most of this by using the plugin app.

Also, the gear apps are dependant on a ton of other works that are installed alongside when from the Samsung store, for example, SANotifierProvider, these provide the data for notifications to be sent to the gear.

owenworley commented 10 years ago

Out of interest, what bugs do you see in the new versions of gear manager that were not in the old one?

You mentioned gear apps not working in later gear managers, which ones?

Can you tell me the version numbers of the gear managers you want to use and I will add code to make it work for that version as well as the new ones? (If I can't find download links you might need to send me the apk files for your preferred version)

NakedFaerie commented 10 years ago

Hi, there is that clock designer, forgot the name of it but it's been reported by others also that it doesn't work with the new version. If you use that as your clock when you upgrade you will end up with a blank screen as it doesn't show at all after updating. There are a few other bugs but I only had it installed for about 2 hours as it was too annoying after that I removed it and kept it off since. I can't remember what they were but after going back to 1.6 all those bugs were gone.

I'm waiting for a new version to show up then I will give it a try again. Is there already an update to v2.0? You said about last weeks update? Wast that the original v2.0 release or an update since?

Thanks Rik

Hi, I’ve updated to the latest GM and its actually fixed some bugs and feels better. It’s not crashing as often and the apps are working again. The latest version is dated today and this update fixed it. I still don’t have v2 its v1.7.040401.

It was white for the very first connection then went black as soon as it found the Gear 1.

1.7.040401 is the version number for the latest gear1 plugin, are you sure you are looking at the correct app/version? I don't mean to sound condescending.

NakedFaerie commented 10 years ago

Ok, yea that’s the Gear1 plugin but that’s also the version number you see in Gear Manager when using the Gear 1. The original black version.

Gear Manager has a version number of 2.0.14040401 but isn’t that the new white version? I only see that at the very first sync and never seen it since. Even when I click the new white clock icon (Gear Manager) it goes straight to the old black version 1.7 not a new white v2.0

And I got that Gear Stub but its only called Gear manager and that’s v1.0.02

There are heaps of other Gear files, every function and app has its own app, all different icons, from the old gold clock to the new white clock.

These screenies are from my note3, taken just now, and my gear 1 is on my wrist :p. When I open gear manager its the black theme, but its def version 2 as you can see from the pics.

owenworley commented 10 years ago

However, inside gear manager, if you click settings, about, it says version 1.7, which is silly.

The gear manager app seems to detect the plugin and load code from the plugin instead.

The latest version of this module should work fine for you as it patches the plugin

Hi All!! I'm running a Galaxy Gear Neo on an ATT Note 3 rooted and rommed with DynamicRom 1.4 KK 4.4.2. screenshot_2014-04-19-11-17-19

The Xposed module version number 1.2 doesn't work for me. I still see the notification icon in the upper left. When I get the app info on the running "Host Manager" the version number is 2.0.14041404. the module is ticked in Xposed and I have rebooted of course. The Gear 2 Neo works fine etc. but the module isn't disabling the icon in the upper left. Any ideas?

owenworley commented 10 years ago

I don't have a neo to test with, but I will look into getting it working if I can. Won't be till Tuesday though, its a bank holiday here in the UK.

Seems each gear type uses a slightly different manager app so the patch for the gear 1 won't work for a gear2/neo.

Also closing this issue as it is resolved, this module will only be tested against latest versions

No worries at all bro. If you need an .apk or anything from it I'm happy to help.

Tha ks for the fast reply

Hi Lane, could you check if gear manager installs any plugins for the gear 2 neo?

If you check the android apps manager and look for other apps with the galaxy gear icon, for example, the gear1 installs a plugin called 'gear1 plugin', if there is a plugin I'll need its apk to suppress the notifications.

Thanks,

Owen
