I really prefer this funktion, because the organisation about gmail is to
difficult. I hope the release is
before summer 09.

I would very much enjoy this feature. I have a feeling many... "adventerous"
Android
users would, too.

Hi,
Sms Backup is really very great indeed. A Restore function would really be
nice, I'm
missing it ...

Yeah restore would be great, especially for people flashing a different rom
every ten
seconds! works great on eclair btw.

if you don't mind building your own packages, i've added a restore feature to
android-sms
http://github.com/jberkel/android-sms/tree/restore_backups
there's also a prebuilt package in the download section.

hey jim,
thanks for testing! i've sent christoph my patch and he said he was going to
look at it, i guess he hasn't had the
time for it yet.

My HTC Hero is crazy, it sends a single SMS to a contact after Restore my
SMSes.
Updated my ROM and Restored after Reboot it sends the SMS, happend twice!
Every time the same SMS which I sent some days ago, its not the last or first.
Nothing special about the backup "mail".
I deleted the specific SMS and mail, hopping it doesn't happen anymore.

hey remy,
hmm this shouldn't happen, but it would be helpful if you could send me the
full headers of that email (view
original in gmail). maybe you can retrieve it from the trash?

thanks, but there're some headers missing. be sure to use "show original" in
the gmail web interface. there
should be a bunch of headers starting with X-smssync-

great that's very helpful - i've added a new issue on github

hey remy,
i think i fixed the bug. can you try installing the new version and restore
again (if possible with the same email,
the one which got sent out) please?
@chstuder: i think the backup logic needs to be changed to exclude
MESSAGE_TYPE_OUTBOX as well, so these
sms won't even be backed up.

Just wanted to say that I've successfully used the restore functionality to
restore 839 SMS's onto my Hero after I upgraded it with Android 2.1. Only issue
was that 24 of the SMS's were marked as unread after the restore, everything
else perfect as can be.
Thanks!

@hjernemadsen42: there's a new version out (1.1.2) which lets you mark all
restored messages as read (advanced settings).

For everyone interested in the restore feature: there's now an official apk in
the android market place, search for "SMS Backup+". The improved version is
released as open source on github (http://github.com/jberkel/sms-backup-plus/)
and licensed under the same license as SMS Backup.
Thanks to everyone who helped beta testing!
