While it gets around the immediate issue with #232 , it opens up another issue. I think this is the right way forward though.

Yes, as no catalogs is the expected run mode at this point. If something weird comes up, I'd expect warn or up to be used for debugging. That said, really I don't care much either way--it's just a line :)
