Feature Request: Re-Balance Solar Panels #110

Version: (make sure you are on the latest version before reporting):

Feature description:

2020-09-04 19_06_31-Window I have build the setup you see above. From left to right these are 1 Solar Panel (Nitro), 3 Solar Panels (Spirited), 9 Solar Panels (Niotic), 27 Solar Panels (Blazing), 81 Solar Panels (Hardened). As each Solar Panel requires three of the previous Version this is a 1to1 ratio on quantity compared to what is needed to craft them. All Energy Cells are set up to only receive energy when a redstone signal is present and I made sure that all Solar Panels are empty and all Cells are empty. Then I started measuring how much energy was produced until switching off the system.

Here are the statistics: Type Quantity Max Energy storable in Panels Generated Energy
Nitro 1 8M FE 711,600 FE
Spirited 3 7.5M FE 889,500 FE
Niotic 9 9M FE 1,174,140 FE
Blazing 27 13.5M FE 1,440,990 FE
Hardened 81 8.1M FE 1,924,560 FE

As you can see there are multiple things wrong. When I craft a higher Tier of an item I expect it to be better than the previous ones combined. So if I need 3 Solar Panels (Spirited) to craft one Solar Panel (Nitro) I expect that the one Nitro Panel is better than the three Spirited ones combined. This is obviously not the case. Each version is less effective than the previous one. The only benefit is that they take up less space. But with the current values I would rather have three chunks full of Solar Panels (Starter) than having one Solar Panel (Nitro) because they just generate a lot more energy. And not only the output is strange but also the amount of energy a Solar Panel can store internally. As you can see this is highly fluctuating.

Current situation is this: Type Generates % Change Store % Change
Nitro 1.2k FE/t -20 8M FE +6.6
Spirited 500 FE/t -24.24 2.5M FE -16.6
Niotic 220 FE/t -18.5 1M FE -33.3
Blazing 90 FE/t -25 500k FE +66.6
Hardened 40 FE/t +11.1 100k FE +33.3
Basic 12 FE/t -20 25k FE +66.6
Starter 5 FE/t n/a 5k FE n/a
I would suggest something like this as values for the different Tiers: Type Generates % Improvement Stores % Improvement
Nitro 6.2k FE/t +11.7 20.5M FE +33.4
Spirited 1.85 FE/t +10.1 5.12M FE +33.3
Niotic 560 FE/t +9.8 1.28M FE +33.3
Blazing 170 FE/t +8.97 320k FE +33.3
Hardened 52 FE/t +8.3 80k FE +33.3
Basic 17 FE/t +6.6 20k FE +33.3
Starter 5 FE/t n/a 5k FE n/a

Sure 6.2k FE/t is a lot more than it is currently generating. You could of course improve the performance for less percent. But I think a slighly increasing performance boost is nice. At least it should be a performance boost or at least equal performance but getting worse with each tier is just not right,

A huge thanks for the great work you did, really need these statistics 👍

I would argue that the reduced energy production is balanced by the increased compactness. I do however believe that the energy storage of energy generators at the nitro tier is a bit insane. Storing 10M FE in a reactor or 8M FE in a solar panel basically makes any kind of energy storage unnecessary. 20M FE per panel would make it even worse.

Suggestion: Solar panels upgrading like thermo generators:

Photoelectric plane Prev Level Solar panel Photoelectric plane
Leveled Capacitor Dielectric Casing Leveled Capacitor
Leveled Material Leveled Material Leveled Material

And change generation to 1.5x of same level thermo generator.
