Too subtle use of color

The authoring colors in the document editor have two main problems for me as a color vision impaired user:

• Users are not able to select their own authoring colors but are assigned a random color. Sometimes these colors are very difficult to distinguish. (In my case, dark blue and dark purple look almost the same on a white background.)
• Authoring colors fade after a certain time. It can become difficult to cognitively connect a faded version of a color to the fully saturated color. (This happens to people with perfect color vision as well, but for me, a lot of the same shades of the same color just look like totally different colors.)

In general, most users usually can distinguish shades OR colors, but both at the same time is difficult. Info graphics that use shading usually can not use more than two different colors on a fixed colored background with a very high distance to each other in a color space (for instance blue and red, yellow and blue, purple and green).

Solution:

• Let users change their assigned authorship color with a simple color picker. For example, the bright colors of github tags are easy to distinguish even for me, especially on a white background.
• The editing indicators should not fade over time.

I support this request, see also #112 - user editable and persistent colors would be a neat solution. The current random assignment could be an option to activate for those who like it - though real-life collaboration definitely benefits from color persistence
