Unfortunately I don't have LDAP running on my server so I cannot test what exactly is not working.

Do you have entries in the table *PREFIX*mozilla_sync_users
in the database?
no, all three mozilla_sync_users tables are empty
Do you see a value for Email in your .../owncloud/index.php/settings/personal
?
Additionally, can you paste the result from the following SQL statement :
SELECT userid, configkey, configvalue FROM oc_preferences WHERE appid = 'settings';
yes, there is a value for my email address
an the result lists are all my users with userid (values are the the owncloud userid), configkey (value is "email") and configvalue (value is the email address itself).
Can you download the debug version from the debug_ldap branch and post your nginx-access log for it?
clean install or can I just overwrite the old files ?
You should just be able to overwrite the files with this version.

btw. there is no about:sync-log at all now ?!?
The problems seems either to be finding the email address, failed password verification or unability to create an entry in the database.
I added more debug output to the debug_ldap branch. Can you overwrite your files with the new version and post your nginx-access log again?
PS: The absence of the about:sync-log could be due to the changed error codes for debugging purposes.

Ok, so the problem is with the checkPassword() function. I was under the impression that the LDAP connector would be seamlessly integrated into the user backend.
so I should give it a try or do you need some time to figure it out?
You can give it a try and report your findings.
https://github.com/owncloud/mozilla_sync/tree/debug_ldap or which one youre fixing?
@1of16 first I wanted to figure out wether user_ldap seamlessly integrates into the user backend. If you want to try some fixes yourself in the meantime you can clone the repository, create a new branch and send a pull request for it.
wold love to help you...but I got no bloody idea where to start ;) but thank you for your support for far!
I had a informative discussion with @blizzz developer of the user_ldap app. LDAP authentication does not (necessarily) use the internal Owncloud user ID. Can you try out the user_ldap_auth branch? For it to work you need to enable LDAP email login in your admin panel, e.g. by setting the User Login Filter to (|(uid=%uid)(mail=$uid))
.
I changed the user login filter to (|(uid=%uid)(mail=$uid)) and to (|(uid=%uid)(email=$uid)) (cause of http://doc.owncloud.org/server/5.0/admin_manual/configuration/auth_ldap.html) but both settings aren't working. but I can't even login with my email address on the owncloud webinterface. so I guess there is the problem?!? I'll search for an solution...
damn! we made one big step :)
I change it to (|(uid=%uid)(email=$uid)(email=%uid)(mail=$uid)(mail=%uid))
and could log on the webinterface itself
and I could add the mozilla sync....but there is another error: username or password is wrong
but my user is now in the database (oc_mozilla_sync_users)

I hope you can find something useful....
So there is a problem with finding the email address related to your user ID.
Can you execute the following SQL statement (replace YOUR_USER_ID
):
SELECT configvalue FROM oc_preferences WHERE userid = 'YOUR_USER_ID' AND appid = 'settings' AND configkey = 'email';
PS: Please use markdown for debug output or code segments.
my user id is the owncloud numbers code? if yes, there is no result
and Im sry, Im not familiar with the tag codes here :-/ but Ill do my best...
The user ID is the username
entry in the oc_mozilla_sync_users
table.
You can use ````` to create code-like environments ;)
ok...so I used the right one and the result is empty...
thank you!
wait! I found something....the username is wrong! its not the username it should and its not one of my users...so a new random one?!
so,,, I found the problem! your database structure, plese increase the varchar of username in oc_mozilla_sync_users
its just the problem, that the owncloud users ids are too long, I guess
because my user id is xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-5d79c187debb
and in the oc_mozilla_sync_users
it is xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-5d79c187
just changed it manually and it works! :)
That's good to hear! Try out the new version from the debug_ldap branch. Go to the app page in your admin panel and verify that the Mozilla Sync version changed to 1.1.1. Additionally, check whether the length of the username
column increased to a max of 64 characters.
I guess you mean the ldap_user_auth branch cause the other hasn't changed yet ;) I give it a try and will report back
Yep, I mixed up the branch names ;)
damn, it looks good. working here so far without any problems! so is it already save to use?
btw the minimal login-filter: (|(uid=%uid)(mail=%uid))
I added the LDAP information to the README. Additionally, I did some code refactoring. Could you test the ldap_user_auth branch one last time before we merge this to master?
just did a clean install and I was able to add my user to firefox sync, all tables in the db are filled as expected. additional I just paired my android phone successfully.
great work! I guess its fixed now!
thank you for all your work!
One note: I like to apologize for a typo
(|(uid=%uid)(mail=$uid))
should have been
(|(uid=%uid)(mail=%uid))
adding (|(uid=%uid)(mail=%uid)) did not solve my problem.

Update README.md
Add link to User API
what am i doing wrong? =(
you already got the answer in your question. "Please set an email address in your account settings" without an email it wont work!
Look, that's an error message.
In the error message "account settings" isn't a link, so I'm not exactly sure which "account settings" it's referring to.
Nothing under Personal, (or Users,) or Apps, or even Admin is there any field for adding my email address (which it should be getting from LDAP in the first place).
I can use my login name or my email address as my login for owncloud, so LDAP is working, and knows what my email address is.. but Mozilla Sync gives me no, and points me to no direct way to input my email address.
maybe i'm blind, but i'm telling you, i cannot find any field on any screen asking me for my email.
On your personal page you should have a field where you can enter your email address. Do you see this field?
Mozilla Sync relies on ownCloud's config API to match email address to user name. This API in turn relies on entries in the database and does not query LDAP.
Maybe you can try out the mozilla_sync_1.2 branch. It has a relatively verbose debug output for errors in the ownCloud log.
First of all, I do not see the "email address" field.
Historically, I've understood that field is absent because i'm using LDAP as my backend.
With LDAP set to the backend, that field isn't shown. I don't know if this has ever changed, but i'm running the latest packages from owncloud.org, so i imagine if it was something they changed, my setup would have reflected it.
unless it's one of those things that can't be toggled from the GUI and some under the hood magic needs to be done. I've never stumbled upon that thread.
I imagine the field is invisible because it can't be changed from outside LDAP (yet), but it seems like a simple query to an existing structure for the plugin to elicit the info. I don't know anything about that though. >_>
I'm also open to the idea that i'm barking up the wrong tree as to why i don't have that field visible.
@1of16 do you see the email field with your LDAP setup?
@victort could you download the mozilla_sync version from the mozilla_sync_1.2 branch and paste your log output here?
i'm now running: commit 2dcaddb67c06bada1a9df7f57296dc13e8b0211b Merge: cab72a4 effa883 Author: Oliver Gasser oliver@flowriver.net Date: Sun Nov 24 09:21:30 2013 -0800
A) the apps screen still lists the plugin as 1.1.1, so i'm not sure the version took, and the Personal screen shows
Mozilla Sync Please set an email address in your account settings
Version ownCloud 5.0.13 Developed by the ownCloud community, the source code is licensed under the AGPL.
so, i don't know the Mozilla Sync plugin version from that, either.
As for logs, what logs can i provide? my apache logs and my owncloud.log seem to have nothing to say about mozilla sync
oh wait, there's some SQL in the readme file i haven't done. let me try that.
oh wait.. there's more SQL i missed. lemme try that too
ok. after trying all the SQL, and a fresh install of the plugin. still no love.
is there a log setting i can use to make things more verbose? my owncloud.log didn't move one bit after all that
upping the log output to debug for owncloud.org still reports nothing. (literally, doesn't move).
I don't see any email field, because I hooked my zarafa-mail server up to the ldap server. I had to set "mail" in the email field under special values in the advanced tab of the ldap settings. I just guess you miss configured your ldap-server? because its all working fine here... before you try to get the plugin working just try to login to OC with your email adress, if that isn't working the mozilla plugin wont work either.
Is the Email Attribute in your LDAP config set? http://doc.owncloud.org/server/5.0/admin_manual/configuration/auth_ldap.html#special-attributes
/me sings.. A WHOLE NEW WORLD!!!!
so yeah, i apologize if i missed it somewhere, but it should be called out for LDAP backend users that the mail attribute needs to be present in the Special Attributes field.. FOR NOW I SEE LE URL!!
thank you so much for suffering my impudence. I (and my users) can now use Mozilla Sync to our hearts content..
AllOfYou++
...except my owncloud log is now reporting,

which may or may not be a separate issue, however, it works fine for my logging in, and all other things. even if i cut and paste my password (so i know it's right), it's reporting this in the logs. =(
I've tried from two different Firefoxes on two different machines (one Fedora 18 and one MacBSD 10.7.3 (aka OSX).
Linux: Build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:24.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/24.0 MacBSD: Build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.7; rv:6.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/6.0
both fail on the password. (which i know is input correctly!)
moar data,
Ok, so fully removed mozilla_sync (database tables, rows and all).. reinstalled from the master branch and it worked!
after fully uninstalling and trying again from the 1.2 branch it does NOT work, producing:

Trying again from 1.1.1 and upgrading to the 1.2 branch after successful registration, shows me the awesome stats of how much is synced and how many devices and what not, but i'm:
a) unable to register new devices, because i get the password errors i had been getting when starting with 1.2
b) unable to add another account, because it swears up and down the password is wrong.
I guess I'll run 1.1.1 for now, in the meantime.
Thank you again for putting up with my insanity.
I linked my owncloud (5.0.13) with my LDAP-Server (same host) and therefore I can't use the app, cause it can't find the users or something. Error-Message in Firefox "unknown error". There are no infos in the errologs as far as I can see it or maybe tell me where some infos could be found.
