CalDAV supports recurring tasks and this can be implemented. However, I haven't had a look on this, because supporting every combination of recurrance is not that trivial, but necessary to properly function with other clients.
I'd like to add a +1 on this. Recurrance is the last thing keeping me from moving my To-Do workflow out of the public cloud. Would it be possible to add a simpler recurrance as a starting step, ie - recur every n (days|weeks|months|years) and worry about the more complicated combinations later? What clients do you have in mind with regards to having proper functionality?
Perhaps I'm naive, but it seems imperfect functionality is better than no functionality at all.
I would love that as well!
I also would love to see this!!!

Unfortunately is neither coffee-script nor php my domain, otherwise I would love to try to help here, as recurring tasks is also one feature I use centrally for organizing my time.
This really is something missing. Let me explain. (The first time I tried owncloud, it was the release 3 or 4. Too many problems to plan to move anything. The 8.1 seems far away from the first releases.)
Let's see how to move from google (for example) to your owncloud for privacy reasons - what I'm trying to do right now after yeaaaars with google apps:
1) Your can migrate your google calendars via ics export/import (Contacts migration is OK). 2) you can sync it all with your thunderbird / android / iphone probably with various applications (free or not) 3) Then you discover owncloud's calendars don't have reminders/notifiers. 4) OK then I'll use Tasks (and the Tasks application on Android seems to be good enough), there's a link with your calendar, good, but no recurring tasks... like a reminder for a weekly task at home or to tell you it's time to leave for a recurring appointment. That's the only thing missing. Really.
(I could use the 3rd party "Calendar plus" OC app, but... I can't import an ICS into it. So it's probably good if you create a calendar, not if you migrate. Furthermore, there's a risk about the app roadmap as it's a 3rd party app).
Anyway, thank you for all this. Regards,
I would really appreciate this feature, even in with simple features.
OpenTasks for Android is scheduled to have this functionality by the end of this year according to the app-page on Google Play, would be great if owncloud supported it too then.
Get anyone Opentasks with this Tasksplugin working? Opentasks show the calendar but did not Sync the new Task to the server.
+1 to support for recurring tasks

i would love that! +1
Currently I'm using calengoo-app. This app recreate a next occurence of task on completation. Calengoo is not free (3-5 $)
Why is this closed? I think it is an important feature for many people...
I am reviving the tasks app after a long time of no activity. There were 69 issues I had to look at. Some going back to 2015. There is no way for me to go back that far and deal with the enhancements and bugs that may have already been implemented/fixed. ownCloud tasks is currently several versions behind the Nextcloud app. I did not develop this app and I am now trying to get familiar with it. I want to set a baseline that is current with Nextcloud and then review issues and enhancements from there. After I get the tasks version to 0.9.5, we can then look at possible enhancements.
Ok, thanks for the clarification.
+1 Any progress since 2017? It looks like NextCloud/Tasks hasn't managed this yet either.
This isn't anything I will be implementing. I do not have the time to commit to learning ownCloud enough to work on this app with no compensation for my time. I would suggest you use a client that supports the functionality you want and let ownCloud be the repository for your tasks. I use an email client that has a task manager that will accomplish your request.
Support for recurring tasks would be really handy. Repetition should be configurable similarly to recurring appointments (every 1, 2, 3 weeks, every n months, nth weekday of month, etc.) If CalDAV supports that kind of task it's fine. If not sync only the next upcoming recurrence might be asolution.
