In some circumstances, Mac users may find that exporting an Excel spreadsheet as CSV doesn't actually produce a CSV file, but rather a semicolon separated file. This needs covering in the documentation to avoid confusion.
The problem seems to be to do with language preferences. Dave Paine has established the following:
In System prefs > Language & Region > Advanced > General, if you have The Number Separators set to
Grouping: ,
Decimal: .
(So that you might have a number such as 3,678.12) then all will work fine.
However, if you have
Grouping: .
Decimal: ,
(So that you might have a number such as 3.678,12) then all will not work fine since Excel will save files as scsv files! When making the change she will need to restart Excel.
