We're aware that there are some platform limitations around text editing.
We're working to improve the experience.

This is, imho, one of the weakest area in Android a11y at this point.
One change which would simplify the editing workflow immensely would be to
prevent the accessibility focus from leaving an edit field when entering text
using the on-screen keyboard. This would, among other things, make it much
simpler to backtrack and correct a typo in a word, a trivial task which can be
highly frustrating at the moment. This, along with the ability to navigate by
sentence (along with the other levels) would already be a great leap forward.

Bug pertaining to this issue:
(Observed on 4.1.1/TalkBack 3.3.2)
When entering editing mode by double-tapping the desired field it is not
possible to begin navigating by the selected element right away. (I.e swiping
left or right takes one to the previous or next UI element.) It is necessary to
change reading element specifically before the expected behaviour takes place.

I am not sure if this belongs to this issue however I must say that we would
also like to be able to copy, cut and paste the text after selecting it.
