It obviously needs some work.

I am horrid at sudoku icons, so I am gonna summon @UriHerrera. Although this looks too plain to me. BTW, what is the design rationale behind that background? It looks cool, but it kinda implies music /video player.

Still can not find out why the background is what is is. Also, it can have digits in some squares and ? in other.

Don't sudoku chips.. or however they're called have a distinct design?. This looks nothing that I can relate to the game.

I suppose having a Chinese lettering there wouldn't hurt. It'd be at least more recognizable than the question mark.

I will add numbers soon. Chinese or question marks not included.

3 is a bad number to use in an icon. It is absolute pain to align to grid. I like the grey icon, but it misses numbers.

It can use some numbers, though. But yes - the grey one is my favourite too. If normal numbers and chinesse ones are too hard to align to a grid, we can always go with Roman ones, they are easy to align.

gnome-sudoku I changed the colors. Merge?

The colors were and are fine. The characters that the chips use are the issue. Numbers are not aligned to the grid and they do not fit the pixels they're supposed to use.
