Optical trackpad control does not work on samsung moment / Android 2.1 #42

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Need to have a Samsung Moment With Android 2.1
2. Install Replica Island 1.3
3. Try to move using the optical pad

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
*The Optical pad should control the character, but seems to barely do
anything except the occasional "blip" of movement.
*Sensitivity setting doesn't remedy the problem.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
RI 1.3 on Android 2.1 (DE03)

Please provide any additional information below.
RI 1.2 works, although the controls are difficult to use, which was
intended to be fixed in the latest release. I have not tested RI 1.3 on
Android 1.5, so I am not sure if it is OS version related.

Looks like Samsung changed their trackpad implementation in their 2.1 update.
Now, instead of generating
motion events (like it should, and like other optical trackpad devices do), it
generates keyboard events which do
not repeat. So the game gets one DPAD_LEFT when you swipe left and then
nothing.

So, I can't fix this. You could complain to Samsung, or just use the keyboard
or tilt controls.

Samsung... Grr... I bet they did it to try to save a tidbit of battery or
something.
I have a feeling the solution will have to be a custom ROM then, because they are
rapidly loosing any interest in supporting the moment.

It's a shame though for users running the official 2.1 release though. I did
use the
tilt controls for part of the game and they work pretty good, if that makes you
feel
better.

Thanks for looking into the issue.

Actually, I just tried using the actual keyboard arrow keys for the first time
and
they work better than anything else. It's kind of hard to use those tiny keys
though.
