FLUKE fails to work in iTunes 10.4 on Mac OS 10.7 Lion #45

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Launch iTunes 10.4
2. Click any FLAC file
3. Nothing happens. Input seems to be simply ignored. Non-FLAC files play fine
and iTunes doen't hang or crash.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
There is no error message, no feedback whatsoever.
Also, if you try to launch fluke, it fails to do so. No process detected at the
CPU level

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Latest version of Fluke (0.2.5b) with Mac OS 10.7 GM Seed (comparable to the
market version, as it's the gold version that was uploaded to the app store
this week)

Please provide any additional information below.
Also tried reinstalling. No luck with that.
Problem might be related to the iTunes update, I can recall playing FLAC files
through earlier beta's of Lion as far as february all the way thru june and the
iTunes 10.4 update was only pushed recently to accompany the app store release.

I would like to add that using Fluke 0.2.5b and iTunes 10.4 (80) appears to
also be an issue running OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). I propose this may be an
iTunes issue, and not an OS issue.

i did make that:

"Known issues
Mac OS X 10.7 Lion Support: is incomplete at this time. To make Fluke run, go
into your Applications, right-click on iTunes, head to Get Info, and check off
"Open in 32-bit Mode"."

And download de version 0.2.5b, and it works OK! :D

Fluke doesn't work with OSX Lion and iTunes 10.4.1
I try the 32Bits solutions and doesn't work in my macbook :(

Are you going to Update Fluke??

Confirming comment 5: Fluke works when opening iTunes in 32bit mode on my beta
machine, running iTunes 10.4.1 on Mac OS X 10.7.2.
64-bit mode still not working though.
I'd be happy to test any nightlies on the dev versions if needed.

For those of us with 32-bit computers, the "32-bit mode" is unavailable as an
option for iTunes, and sadly therefore not a "universal fix".

I am running Mac Mini, 1.66 GHz Intel Core Duo, Mac OS X 10.6.8, iTunes 10.4.1
and Fluke 0.2.5b.

Mac OS X 10.6.6, iTunes 10.4.1, Fluke 0.2.5b.

This appears to be an iTunes 10.4.1 issue, not an OS issue since it includes
different versions of 10.6.x, not just 10.7.x.

I cannot use the "32-bit mode trick" as there's no option for it in Info. A
quick glance at Activity Monitor shows that iTunes is running in 32-bit mode
already (while many, many apps/services show that they're running in 64-bit).

I seem to think I'd been adding FLAC files using fluke as little as a month
ago, but I could be wrong.

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
You can force 32-bit if it isn't an option by running this in Terminal. You
must keep the Terminal window open as iTunes is running inside of it.

This "32-bit mode work-around" only worked under OS X 10.6.6 and iTunes 10.4.1
for me. Under OS X 10.7.1 and iTunes 10.4.1 starting iTunes in 32-bit mode
changed nothing; still a lack of response from Fluke, error message or
otherwise, with no response from iTunes.

Just a little more info that may or may not be helpful.

right clicking your flac file, and selecting open with, and choosing fluke, i
just did it then by accident and it seemed to work, and i havent changed from

Thanks for the heads up, worked a treat on OS Lion 10.7 & itunes 10.3.1.
Thought id add, if one is not sure about the right click like my self using a
laptop or couldnt make "get info" working.
Go into itunes preferences, General > import settings > choose MP3 encoder from
the (Import Using) pop-up menu > choose custom from the (Setting) pop-up menu >
choose 32kbps from the (Stereo Bit Rate) pop-up menu.
Highlight files you want to transfer into itunes and choose open with Fluke.
Hope it helps. Worked for me and thanks again!!

Fluke stopped working with Lion. It's a shame that programers havent updated it
yet.
I would love to listen to some of my old music in FLAC.

This problem should be High Priority.

opening itunes in 32-bit mode fixed my problem though i still did get an error
message in fluke after the script ran, though it did not affect the itunes
importing of the files.

So... any news? As with many others, I can't change my mode to 32-bit on
iTunes. I've tried opening the files different ways. When I right-click the
files then opt to open them with another application, selecting Fluke, I get
messages it has failed. (I'd copy-paste the window, but it flashes so quickly
that I don't get the chance to.)

Thanks to anyone who can help!

10.7.3 Mac Mini with Lion Server - changed iTunes to open in 32bit mode - FLAC
files play just fine. Now if they would only work on my Airport Express via
airtunes I would be very happy.

the "open in 32-bit mode" trick worked for me, on 10.7.2, itunes 10.5.1. thanks.
why the hell apple don't adjust their quicktime codec to incorporate flac is
beyond me - i don't see they could lose any money that way. (i did ask them
once, but apparently a few thousand requests isn't enough.)

That's because Apple wants you to use their own lossless codec, I don't want to
counteradvertise Fluke but the issue came back now that I'm testing Mountain
Lion, my solution was much simpler than this constant tinkering with fluke.
I ran a search for all FLAC files in my drive, dragged them all into this free
and simple transcoding tool called XLD
http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/23430/x-lossless-decoder/
and changed them from FLAC to Apple lossless without loss of quality, then used
a tool (IM deduper) to incorporate them in my library and delate any orphaned
files.

You could also just drag all your new Apple lossless files into the library
after transcoding and manually dedupe it.
I'm sorry fluke, I've been tinkering too much, I'm out, this is a permanent
solution to the problem and I'm enjoing the files with artwork and everything
and Spotify now recognizes them too!

Try using Max guys.

http://sbooth.org/Max/

X-lossless doesn't work in mountain lion and Max is simple enough to use.

Note: To find apple lossless you have to search for apple mpeg-4 aac within
preferences, double click and select Apple Lossless.

Tried out the files, comapred flac to ALAC. Cannot tell the difference although
im sure there is some.
