Starting point for the application #23

Just created the Android Studio project with all of the defaults, creating a starting point for the branch. The application runs in an emulator and a tablet, and has the default .gitignore.

Nice job with the speedy PR. I'll checkout the branch and make sure it works for me. Thanks for adding the "closes #12" comment, I was literally just about to tell you to do that from this documentation

That comment didn't seem to do anything. I'll have to do some more research to figure out why that doesn't seem to be working as expected. Let's manually move it in the meantime.

I'm assuming we want to delete this branch now that the PR is closed just to keep the repo tidy. Right?
