This PR contains various minor changes and improvements I have identified while trying to summarize the tests available for line_proj and recovery of line_proj from legacy aligned data.

Its not directly connected to legacy_alignment but still useful as there are small improvements identified while looking at all projection usage. It is committed now not to polute the alignment operations itself.
