Issue Summary

RC has many extensions to Horace which use internal structures of SQW for his analysis, including particular functions e.g. graphics.

These are essential for his use.

Radu's Developed tools

• Clickable graphics interfaces for plots.
• Data provenance tracking attached to Horace objects & plots.
• Symmetry
• Drawing tools e.g. brillouin zones
• Data filtration on plots?

Potential Issues

• Uses internal properties of data structures which may no longer exist or have been altered following sqw, dnd, &c refactors.
• File-backed vs memory-backed distinction.
• Backwards compatibilty on some functions
• H4 Deprecations

Likely Existing Solutions

• We think graphics windows have not been altered.
• Now we have symmetry operations/reductions integrated into core Horace, don't need his custom forms
• We have the apply interface (memory-/file-backed agnostic)

Actions

• Radu's versions will require refactoring to use with H4
  • Given resistance to change, maximise backwards compatibility, provide assistance
• Ensure future compatibilty
  • Need to have interfaces defined and guaranteed in a well defined way
• developer docs of specific interfaces
  • Superuser guide
  • Document previously hidden features
• Adopt Radu's code and make it part of core
  • Radu code available in rb numbered folder on idaaas
  • Ask for info on current version and location of radu code
  • Encourage Radu (and students) to become contributor(s) to Horace
• Need to establish community that works
  • Contributions email line? separate from help
• Discuss helping radu to use version control (method to be agreed)
  • Find out oxford discipline on code change
  • Discuss use of e.g. git with Radu & student group
