Working with Sharkey's implementation of the Mastodon API #599

Meta issue to cover things that need to be improved w.r.t support for how Sharkey implements the Mastodon API

loading new posts seem to be slow and a bit unreliable, it won't load posts when I know there are some newer ones (or older ones if loading the other way), but it might be due to the filter API think, because I get plenty of "Loading filters failed: HTTP 401"

I like how "go to the top of the timeline" is a button that you have to be very intent on clicking, instead of just pulling for new posts. I feel with other apps I'm always overly careful not to move too fast, not to trigger anything unwanted ^^

I'm releasing a new version of Pachli Current (should be live in about 4 hours from now) that addresses the lack of filter support.

As noted in the related links, the issue with notifications and image previews are due to Sharkey bugs in the implementation of the Mastodon API. There's not much I can do about them at the moment.

Do you still see that (especially when compared with the web interface)? I saw similar issues when experimenting on Monday, and blahaj.zone was sluggish loading the web UI on Monday as well. On Tuesday (yesterday) things were a lot better via both the web UI and Pachli.

Thank you for trying this out and reporting the issues you have. Looking at https://activitypub.software/TransFem-org/Sharkey/-/issues/189 it seems as though Sharkey has a number of issues in their implementation of the Mastodon API at the moment which means reliable use with a Mastodon client (like Pachli) is going to be challenging.

hey, sorry for seeing this late. Here's what appears to be different since last time I tried the app.

let me know if you want me to try more stuff, I'll keep the app on the phone. This was on Pachli 2.4.0 (current latest from f-droid)
