Belt Materials - PrintShift

BELT MATERIAL The current belt is made from .2mm thick Kapton, ordered from AliExpress and lasercut. You can totally hand-cut it, but tracking of the belt is a bit of a pain. The belt is designed to be easily replaced - other materials I have used: .01” polyester film: Cuts easily, prints stick very well with hairspray. This belt has higher thermal expansion, but with PLA or lower temps on the heater it works great, and is quite cheap. It does break down at PETG temperatures, so I recommend the kapton as the most versatile belt. https://www.mcmaster.com/8567K92/ Use hairspray to help prints stick. .225mm Kapton: Low thermal expansion. More expensive than the polyester. https://www.aliex

PrintShift looks awesome! I have been looking for something like this for Prusa Mini. Questions about the belt material: How well does it work with PETG? I see some of the alternatives you tried required hairspray, does the Kapton need it?

I use it mainly with PETG; sticks well, but not too well. I clean with alcohol regularly, and do season with hairspray after, but don't reapply often. It's good for dozens prints before (I think) the dust from the PETG starts kind of filming up, and I clean it off.

Hello Paul, Your printshift idea's and prototypes are looking very cool! I Have 4 prusa mini's running 24/7, would love them to have them all converted to printshift.

So I ordered parts to start on one conversion to printshift 5. However it seems that the 0.2mm thick Kapton film 155mm wide, 430mm long is not available in Europe do you recommend other materials that are available here?

Kind regards, Teun
