Beagleboard xM Rev C builds are broken #126

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Obtain Beagleboard-xM Rev C
2. Download prebuilt images for Rowboat Android 2.3.4 for BeagleBoard xM
3. Install prebuilt image onto a SD 2/4/8GB Micro SD card using default script
4. Boot board, wait for it to fail...it will eventually

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Android 2.3.4 boots

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I am using a BeagleBoard-xM Rev C with prebuilt Beagleboard-xM images. I have
also tried to build from source with the same results (even using the latest by
doing a repo sync)

Please provide any additional information below.
Board boots from flash just fine, it starts booing android, launches adb and
then outputs 2 messages

request_suspend_state (x->x) (they are different at times, some are 0->0 and I
have seen 0->3 and 3->0)

and

init: untracked pid x exited

Eventually after some time (variable it seems) the system does a kernel oops
and a variety of error messages have been seen, depending on if it was the
first boot or not. Some have been trying to dealocate a NULL pointer others
have been in the ti power saving code. I do not have a different board to test
this on (rev A or B) so I do not know if this is isolated to rev C or not. I
am not getting consistent crashes so providing a boot log is pretty useless as
each time I get different results.

I have confirmed that this is an issue with the beagleboard-xm rev C. I was
able to get my hands on a rev B xm and the exact same image boots fine. The
rev C board has all kinds of issues. I tried this on 4 different Rev C boards
and the same issue is present so it's not a that it's just my board. The 2.3.4
running on a beagleboard-xm Rev C currently does not work. This is specific to
android as a regular Linux distro like Ubuntu and Angstrom works fine. Very
Strange.

Hi,
I have exactely the same behaviour with the Beagleboard Xm Rev C and the
prebuilt images downloaded here:
http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_tii/TI_Android_DevKit/TI_Andro
id_GingerBread_2_3_4_DevKit_2_1/index_FDS.html
Does someone have found a solution?

I am having problems with BB-xm rev C and Rowboat Android 2.3.4. Mine boots all
the way though. The android logo in the beginnning is green on black, but
"spread" all over the screen, like the problem with Rowboat 2.3 devkit 1.0. The
rest of the process is smooth though and colours are fine. I have no power on
my USB port though, and can therefore not use a mouse, and hence has no way of
interacting with it.
I power the board with a 1000mA supply at 5V.

@jakob,

I'm not sure if USB would work with 1A/5V supply. Can you try power supply with
higher Amp rating? I am using 3A/5V supply and the system works ok.

I've tried with another board (same revision) and it just works! I don't
understand why the first one doesn't boot well.

I have a 600mA 5VDC power adaptor and I can plug an usb mouse and it works fine
but like you jakob, on boot I have the android logo "spread"!

I have the same problem. I use the 16G micro SD card and got the same problem.
But when I use the 8G micro SD card every thing is work. Maybe try to use
2/4/8G memory card

Confirming the same issue. Android boots up, but runs incredibly slow on my XM
Rev C
