Can't get past CMake #4

Hi @pageauc ,

I've tried almost every way possible to get CV2 installed onto my rPi 0w and came across your scripts and am hoping they will get me over the hump.

I'm working my way through your menu and got to the cmake portion where the script failed after 1sec. It is saying it can't find the build folder though it clearly is there. Please see pics included. Hopefully you can help.

Thank you! Image 1 Image 2 Image 3 Image 4 Image 5 Image 7

Sorry for the delay. We are on our annual migration south.

pi zero can be problematic at the best of times. I need to do some testing. In the mean time try removing what you have using the DELETE option. This will clear the existing downloads and free space. Then edit the cv3-install-menu.conf file and change version to 3.4.8 Not sure if problem is with 4.1.0 on zero since it is complaining about the cmake directive. I am assuming you are using Raspbian Buster or Stretch.

Sorry about your frustration. Compiling from source can be problematic due to various RPI models, OS versions, Opencv versions, Etc, I wrote the script for myself and decided to share since I was frustrated with the large variety of manual install methods and the amount of cut and paste required. There is a pip install for opencv but only works for specific RPI models. https://pypi.org/project/opencv-python/ might be worth a try.

In the mean time I will do some testing. Regards Claude ...

Hi Claude,

I couldn't get the 3.4.8 to make after a "delete" and re-download of the source files. [image: image.png] Is it weird the .sh is saying "-- cmake Compile for Raspberry Pi 2"? Also, /home/pi/tmp_cv3/ does exist.

Thank you, Luke

Not sure what is going on but I could reproduce your problem on a RPI 4. Could not figure out why it was failing since it worked fine previously. Then decided to add directive section for RPI4 and modules directive was higher up per a reference from Adrian Rosebrock. Did same for RPI3 and 2 directives. Tested on my RPI4 and could run cmake. It may be that opencv changed something and the modules section has to be higher in the sequence now.
Please run menu UPGRADE menu pick and retry cmake option. Everything else can remain the same. I have not tested on RPI3 or 2. Let me know results

We are now in our southern winter texan residence and mostly unpacked and setup. Also was having a problem with a backup drive that had my github stuff on it but laptop was OK so used it. Thanks for your Patience

Hi Claude,

I did the .sh upgrade option, then deleted all files/directories, then re-downloaded source files, then tried cmake again and still came up with the same error. [image: image.png]

Luke Try upgrade to Release 3.8. I believe problem is with directives and simplified to an older version. Have not had a chance to test and would appreciate if you could test this release for me since I am still doing some unpacking and other honey do list items.

Thanks Claude ...

Hi Claude,

I couldn't find any CV repositories of "3.8". From the message it sounded like you wanted an older version than 3.4.8 which we tried before so I'm currently trying 3.4.0. I'll update you on progress, let me know if you wanted another version to try.

I meant the new cv2-install-menu.sh https://github.com/pageauc/opencv3-setup/blob/master/cv3-install-menu.sh You can upgrade using the menu, Restart and try the new menu. Hoping you can test. You can pick any ver of opencv. I used opencv release 4.1.2 valid release numbers of opencv are here https://github.com/opencv/opencv/releases Anyway it is the new menu version that needs testing Thanks Claude ...

Okay Claude,

I upgraded the installer sh. When opening it still says v3.3, I'm assuming that's just some text that didn't get updated.

I'm running the upgraded installer with cv 4.1.2. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks,

cmake does not take very long. make will take a long time with J1 but should be safer. I have turned off examples in cmake directive settings so that will help. Keep me updated. What version of cv are you compiling?

RPI zero only has 512 mb ram memory so single processor is used since multi processor make needs more memory. I am assuming you have GUI desktop turned OFF to save memory during make but might be OK. Swap is 1024 mb. If make runs out of memory then you could always increase swap by editing dphys-swapfile.1024 file. Claude ...

Its still chugging along at 3%. I believe I have dphys-swapfile at either 1024 or 2048, can't remember what I previously set it to. I've also incorporated the entire SD card into the OS partition I think.

Any thoughts here? Was install successful?

Could not see image you sent. Did make (compile) finish at 100%. You could try a compile again. Note make will not rerun completely as long as you do not do a cmake again.. On Menu select compile then MAKE 2 Run/Continue ..... It should not take a long time since you already compiled code so it should quickly go through source and check. Look for any errors. If compile comes back successful then run Install again, Reboot and try import again. Make sure you have enough free space available.

Claude,

went through make again and tried importing cv2 again.

@raspberrypi:~ $ python3 Python 3.7.3 (default, Apr 3 2019, 05:39:12) [GCC 8.2.0] on linux Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.

import cv2 Traceback (most recent call last): File "", line 1, in File "/usr/local/lib/python3.7/dist-packages/cv2/init.py", line 89, in bootstrap() File "/usr/local/lib/python3.7/dist-packages/cv2/init.py", line 79, in bootstrap import cv2 ImportError: /usr/local/lib/python3.7/dist-packages/cv2/python-3.7/ cv2.cpython-37m-arm-linux-gnueabihf.so: undefined symbol: _ZTIN2cv3dnn14dnn4_v201901225LayerE

I feel like I'm really close just something isn't working just right. File Manager says I have 41.2Gb free I changed the swap file size from 2048 to 8192, still didn't help with the import. ᐧ

It won't be swap file. I would put swap back to stock 100 setting. Seems like a corrupt file or something.

Does error occur with python 3 and python2 or just one? Looks like problem may be due to a bug.

I installed 4.1.2 on RPI4 Buster and opencv imports OK on both python 2 & 3

I feel like I'm really close just something isn't working just right. File Manager says I have 41.2Gb free I changed the swap file size from 2048 to 8192, still didn't help with the import. ᐧ

If compile comes back successful then run Install again, Reboot and try import again. Make sure you have enough free space available.

Can you try the following

cd /usr/local/lib/python3.7/site-packages/cv2/python-3.7
sudo mv cv2.cpython-37m-arm-linux-gnueabihf.so cv2.so

This was taken from https://www.pyimagesearch.com/2019/09/16/install-opencv-4-on-raspberry-pi-4-and-raspbian-buster/

It would appear you ran into a path bug where the compile worked but cv2.so was not created. Maybe due to other failed tries. Not sure. Obviously you are not alone with this issue. I highlighted your error the right clicked and did a Search google for.

ImportError: /usr/local/lib/python3.7/dist-packages/cv2/python-3.7/ cv2.cpython-37m-arm-linux-gnueabihf.so: undefined symbol: _ZTIN2cv3dnn14dnn4_v201901225LayerE

pageauc commented 4 years ago

Check in /usr/local/lib/python3.7/dist-packages

/usr/local/lib/python3.7/dist-packages

You should see a file called

dlib.cpython-37m-arm-linux-gnueabihf.so

This is the output file from opencv compile that should be linked to cv2.so

cd /usr/local/lib/python3.7/dist-packages/cv2/python-3.7
sudo mv cv2.cpython-37m-arm-linux-gnueabihf.so cv2.so

Give that a try and see if it works. Also try reboot to be safe. Let me know if problem is with python 2 and 3

pageauc commented 4 years ago

Also let me know contents of

ls /usr/local/lib/python3.7/dist-packages/cv2/python-3.7
lukeseed commented 4 years ago

Claude,

I did that with the following results [image: image.png]

there was another file in this folder before I ran the above commands but now the folder looks like this [image: image.png]

I'm still getting the same error, for python2 or 3, when trying to import cv2 [image: image.png]

OK Uninistall the current make install. Note this should not remove the existing make files and loose your compile. See link https://answers.opencv.org/question/194106/uninstalling-opencv-400-to-34/

Stop where at where it says to verify that it was completely removed. after step pkg-config --modversion opencv

Try another make install. You should be able to use menu to do this. I suggest you repeat compile step. It should be fast since you still have your original compile. Make sure it completes OK the continue with make install step. Reboot and try again. Claude ...

I'm going to reflash rasbian onto the microSD card and only go through your menu setup to see what a fresh install yields. There might be too many issues with repeated install attempts.

Claude,

Success!! After a fresh Rasbian flash, a new CV3_setup install, and 2136min of cmake later, I'm finally able to import cv2 to the Rasberry Pi Zero W. Looks like there were too many conflicting install problems after all.

[image: Image 1.jpg] [image: Image 2.jpg] thanks for all your help. Yours has been the only solution to getting CV2 onto my rPi0w

Claude, no go. I got this error again [image: image.png]

I'm going to reflash rasbian onto the microSD card and only go through your menu setup to see what a fresh install yields. There might be too many issues with repeated install attempts.

okay, did the uninstall.

You mentioned

Note this should not remove the existing make files and loose your compile

doesn't the below command in that tutorial remove anything with openCV in the name? also, the tutorial asks to delete the entire open CV4 and contrib folders. Doesn't that remove the make files? sudo find / -name "opencv" -exec rm -i {} \;

Just want to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong. Thank you.

Claude,

The first step says

I hope you have a folder which you run cmake command to OpenCV? In my case, I created a folder name release to put builds. open Terminal on that location (or go to that place using Terminal). Now run below command.

sudo make uninstall

I'm assuming the folder I need to execute the make uninstall is here? /home/pi/tmp_cv3/opencv-4.1.0/build

Claude ...
