It is possible, and desirable, to crop images so they fit exactly. However:

this might pollute server cache, so cropping should be rounded to 10 pixels or more
it makes the specific styles of cover/contain somewhat useless
crop/zoom must be changed as soon as container is resized (or at least body)

Maybe auto-crop should be enabled only when the benefit is above a threshold.
