setup continuous integration feedback loops #39

We have a .travis.yml; the next step is to implement the following feedback loop via Travis:

Setup first step of CI integration. Github should be linked with Travis and should be checking builds. I'm assuming the last half can wait since we're not deploying, unless we want to start staging a production app on heroku,
