It would be great to have audio only as a 3rd -- or 4th ;-) -- option beside regular audio+video & video only. Thanks and greetings!

We of course thought about that too and had it already integrated in palava. Unfortunately at some point, it did not run stable in some browser combinations but with the current code base this could already be different.

If you want, you can already have a look at a new version with audio only enabled on https://playground.palava.tv. If you want - you could help us a lot by trying it in different browser combinations (current Opera, Firefox & Chrome (in current and older versions, if available) and posting your results here!

OK, thanks for the hint! It might take 2 weeks till I have time to test it, but I'll report back here.

Some test results:

1) Mozilla Firefox 26 on PC to $browser on Mac: 1a) SRWare Iron 31 1b) Opera 18 1c) Chrome 32 1d) Firefox 26 all work OK, but Firefox on Win7 seems to cause approx. 2x higher background noise & 200ms more delay

2) all other combinations work fine: low background noise, low delay; Skype-quality IMHO 2a) Iron 31 on PC to Firefox, Iron, Opera & Chrome on Mac 2b) Opera 18 on PC to Firefox, Iron, Opera & Chrome on Mac 2c) Chrome 32 on PC to Firefox, Iron, Opera & Chrome on Mac

Is the code change available on playground.palava.tv already available in the github repositories? If so, I could give it a testrun on my own installation of palava.

Yes, the github repository is newer, than what is deployed on playground. You can test Audio only with your own installation by commenting in the audio only - link on line 10 of source/html/shared/_modal_user_media_configurator.html.erb!

This has been deployed a long time ago :-)
