Opinion bugs #52

I've noticed a few bugs in the opinions given priority or the extent to which opinions are acted on. Sometimes if you open an opinion page, then open and save one of the opinions without making any changes, it shifts and alters the taxonomy output. Finally managed to catch one example here: Screenshot 2023-04-27 at 09 27 23 Screenshot 2023-04-27 at 09 27 33 Screenshot 2023-04-27 at 09 27 59

To follow up on this, the problem seems to be particularly associated with cases where a species is moved to a new genus, but the recombination already exists as a species name in the Database, and the two sets of opinions are merged. E.g. Screenshot 2023-08-02 at 10 44 06 Screenshot 2023-08-02 at 10 44 32 Screenshot 2023-08-02 at 10 44 59 For reference, this bug is present in downloaded data as well as on the website.

Hi Bethany. Yes, this is a frustrating error. Matthew Clapham has called this the "original name" error, as it seems to be caused when an original name gets changed. Michael McClennen has figured out the fix, which you can confirm works as intended on the training site: https://training.paleobiodb.org/classic Once it get released to the "public" site, this problem should be solved. I'm going to leave the issue "open" for now until it's released.
