Please explain the usefulness #1

It looks very similar to http://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/quick_map_services/ Please help an user to understand what is better here. Also, please consider merging efforts rather than duplicating. Thanks.

Point taken, I didn't know about this plugin when writing this one. The difference is mostly a difference in caching approach to allow shared cache with the {rosm} R package. This plugin is probably not as useful as quick map services but probably works better for those not connected to the internet at all times since it maintains its own cache and allows the user to cache tiles of all zoom levels for a given extent.

Would it be feasible to add your caching mechanism to QMS plugin? Why not talkling with its developers? Thanks.

Honestly their caching is better and can be manipulated in the QGIS settings, probably should have done some more research before spending a week writing a plugin. I knew about OpenLayers and was really just trying make a useful version of that.

And for the sake of it being a small world, I just thought I'd point out that I couch requested you once while biking through Pontedera (I somehow recognized the photo and looked it up). Cheers!
