To all members, how can this be improved? What are the gaps?
If we view this as a test for larger projects, say, the tokenization of an entire town or city, what is missing? How can this pilot project better inform that?
3. Palestra will tokenize the building's equity
Need to work out the mechanics for this. Has this been done before? Success or failure?
Fedimint seems to be an option here
Date to be determined but perhaps can be placed in Q324.
Several months ago, a Palestra member published a short blog post on city design titled ‘How to Build a New City’.
In the post, he compares ongoing attempts to build new cities. That a city cannot be planned from scratch at the outset. That the best cities, villages, towns adhere to walkable mixed use urbanism (WMUU) that evolves over the course of decades or centuries of use by its inhabitants; that cities change in accordance with its residents.
”What [Rio de Janeiro’ Rochina favela and a random European city center] have in common is that they evolved as living, breathing organisms. Each individual built their house according to their constraints, and this created the street layout. Large arteries evolved to connect neighborhoods, veins filled in each part of the city, and capillaries are for foot traffic only.”
Similar to the weaknesses identified with government central planning or monetary policy, top-down city planning forces the planner to make increasingly less informed guesses as to the use of its residents’ energy and their behavioral patterns.
As a remedy, the author proposes a hypothetical building event called ‘Favela Fest’ comprised of permission-less, unstructured construction. Attendees of this event purchase their own building materials and work together to build a village from scratch.
There is a sense of vitality in this that should not be ignored.
All Palestra members will have access. Equity holders will be able to determine its use to optimize experience and value.
