I cloned this project and will continue support here https://github.com/rimvislt/flask-mail2 since the author of this repo did not reply even after I wrote to him on Twitter.
Disclaimer: I'm not the maintainer/owner of this project and most likely you are a good person with good intentions.
But with my cybersecurity hat on, and having seen too many malicious packages on PyPI, npm, et al: I do not know you. Your GitHub profile does not have much information either. I have never seen your name in any of the Flask-related communities.
Hence, I would not feel comfortable if you suddenly took over the Flask-Mail PyPI package. And while ideally nobody should be using this anymore (nearly 10 years since the last update!), I'm sure some people do. And many of those people probably do not pin versions.
So, playing devil's advocate, if you do have bad intent (again, I doubt that's the case), a person that's not known to the Flask community would suddenly have access to a somewhat popular flask extension package with almost half a million monthly downloads (so "some people" in my last paragraph are actually "many people").
That said: If you are serious about reviving this package, then I suggest reaching out on the Pallets Discord and seeing whether it can/should be transferred into pallets-eco.
However, I'm not sure if reviving this package is a good idea to begin with. It's very basic and if you look e.g. at the email module from Django there are a LOT of nasty edge cases that should be handled. So maybe contributing to flask-mailman (which is a direct port of Django's email module) would be a better option.
I agree you do not know me and I do not know you. I do not think that usage of the Discord application proves anything or makes someone to be trusted. Personally, I do not like Discord's design and for this reason, I am not using it.
I am using Slack and if the criteria to trust someone is to have the ability to speak with the person you can find me on Slack. You can join pythondev.slack.com we have a flask channel and you can find my message about this using this link https://pythondev.slack.com/archives/C0LN2AD7T/p1695575305921509
Flask-Mail is now part of the Pallets Community Ecosystem. Pallets is the open source organization that maintains Flask; Pallets-Eco enables community maintenance of Flask extensions. If you are interested in helping maintain this project, please reach out on the Pallets Discord server.
Hi can I take over your project because you do not seem to be maintaining it anymore?
My pip account username is the same as github: rimvislt
