I wanted to say thanks for doing this work with my game. You did an awesome job.

OMG it's the real Shawn Overcash?! :O Dude, I played so many hours of Decker when I was a teen!

I even started a project, Infojack loosely based on Decker (and other influences) but it's sitting as an underdeveloped proof-of-concept at this point, maybe I'll get back to it someday.

You, sir, are a god among men! Thank you so much, you have no idea what your work means to me.

A warm hug from Brazil!

Sir, you are too kind. I just created a game that I wanted to play. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I wish I had time to create a sequel. I am a much more experienced programmer now, and the tools available are much better. Unfortunately real life prevents that.

Oh, and ignore the fake beard on my photo. A co-worker did that :-)

tukkek commented 5 years ago

You cannot possibly tease me about a Decker sequel without telling me what you'd do with it, at least superficially. Like seriously did you even think you could get away with it xD

And I don't think I'm being too kind. Everyone I see online who played Decker has nothing but utmost respect for it. Expertly designed, no bugs, challenging, hugely innovative in the roguelike genre... and 100% free and open source? If that doesn't make you a MVP then... well, who cares, it does anyway.

Hey guys, I can't believe I see and read this thread, haha =) I've spent so many hours playing it back then. And even these days, I keep an VM with an XP and the Decker installed, and play it from time to time. Great job on rebuilding it for web! I had also some ideas to rebuild the game, but unfortunately I'm only designer, with some basic coding skills. Here's some sketches and working documents of mine, long time abandoned. https://www.figma.com/file/gKPc7Zo9eI3H5Hr83KRtpDyx/v1?node-id=0%3A1

Wow Myroslav, the thought of a mobile Decker had never crossed my mind but I must admit I'm surprised with how well that could work! Decker was always a relatively simple game, so scaling back on the complexity just a little, I don't see why a mobile Decker-like couldn't work! Good job!

I don't particularly like the micro-transactions part... Maybe something like a cash shop where players can trade with each other, MMORPG style, taking a share of the transactions, would work better? Not sure, I don't know anything about monetization nor have read the fine print in the docs.

If you're ever looking to hire a programmer to help with the project, I'm reachable at tukkek@gmail.com.

Thanks @tukkek. That's was just some ideation phase. Not sure about the micro transactions neither. But! I can clearly see how the game translates to mobile media. As for the hiring, I'm afraid it's not the case as of now - I'd rather offer my skills and time for a like-minded team =)
