back to actual request: yes, it would be nice if:
we would get a hint like OP suggested. Problem with that is, by the time we see the hint, we already read the unedited version

This doesn't really seem like a problem, edits work exactly like this in IRC too but each user uses their own hint system or some convention instead of having enforced hint.
yes, we have seen the version with tipos in both cases.
The edit feature however reposts the whole thing again. The homegrown amendments usually don't go that far, instead use irl technics like 'sorry not X vs Z, I meant X vs Y'.
No matter which convention/technology, the anoying ones are the longer posts.
et Minor feature (that might be either hell to implement or really simple): make discord message edits display as [Discord (edit)] instead of simply [Discord] It would make edits less confusing, as in its current state you dont know if it is an edit or a new message.
Hedgehog Might be a little easier to read with [Discord-edit] ?
