Discord bridge adjustment #370

Open Klaranth opened 4 months ago

Klaranth commented 4 months ago

et Minor feature (that might be either hell to implement or really simple): make discord message edits display as [Discord (edit)] instead of simply [Discord] It would make edits less confusing, as in its current state you dont know if it is an edit or a new message.

Hedgehog Might be a little easier to read with [Discord-edit] ?

or, PR discord to drop that silly feature. oh, wait, they don't accept PRs because it's closed source :p

also mumble

SwissalpS commented 4 months ago

back to actual request: yes, it would be nice if:

we would get a hint like OP suggested. Problem with that is, by the time we see the hint, we already read the unedited version

that's probably fine, github does the same thing afaik

edit feature could be disabled per discord channel

Doesn't matterbridge allow you to see if it's an edit or a new message

This doesn't really seem like a problem, edits work exactly like this in IRC too but each user uses their own hint system or some convention instead of having enforced hint.

SwissalpS commented 4 months ago

yes, we have seen the version with tipos in both cases.

The edit feature however reposts the whole thing again. The homegrown amendments usually don't go that far, instead use irl technics like 'sorry not X vs Z, I meant X vs Y'.

No matter which convention/technology, the anoying ones are the longer posts.
