Discussion: Stale bot should not close issues #888

Several recent issues that received positive feedback have been closed by the stale bot (see https://github.com/pangeo-data/pangeo/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aclosed+label%3Astale). My opinion is that this is unhelpful, and it would be better to have the stale bot mark them as stale but not close the issues. Automatically closing an issue without action may dissuade contributors from opening new issues. In contrast, open issues could encourage contributors to help solve the problem (e.g., a PR was offered in https://github.com/pangeo-data/pangeo/issues/886 before it was automatically closed and a PR was submitted to address https://github.com/pangeo-data/pangeo/issues/873 before it was automatically closed).

I would support disabling stale bot in this repo now. Most discussion has moved to https://discourse.pangeo.io/ anyway. Issues like those mentioned above are clearly serving a purpose. @maxrjones - do you want to try removing the stale action (.github/workflows/stale.yml)?
