Due to the similarity between Liquid and Twig currently the syntax highlighting with https://github.com/mblode/vscode-twig-language-2 leads to a better result. Maybe have a look at their approach and add some low hanging fruits to your extension.

Hey, you will need to change your language to HTML. Avoid twig in this version. Resolved in #56
