Dell 10V 10.6.3 update - No Sound #261

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Update to NBI 0.3.4 rc1
2. Install OSX 10.6.3 update
3. Reboot.

What netbook are you using this on?
Dell Mini 10V

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The sound device is sometimes not detected. A reboot or re-executing the
NBI will usually fix but the issue returns.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
NBI 0.3.4 RC1 running OSX SL 10.6.3

Please provide any additional information below.

When using the NBI 0.3.4 RC1 are you letting the netbook installer run after
reboot you should see the logo on
the main screen and usally there for about 10 minutes?

I installed the NBI 0.3.4 RC1, rebooted, then installed OSX 10.6.3. I can't
remember if there was a 10 min delay.
I did the update a few weeks back and have now reverted back to 10.6.2.
Are you seeing the same issue?

I have the same issue, on a mini 10V (bios A06) with SL 10.6.3, NetbookBootMaker
0.8.4.RC1 and NetbookInstaller 0.8.4.RC1. The NBI screen stayed for about 10
minutes
after the upgrade. When I boot after a shut down, I haven't the sound but if I
reboot, the sound comes back (I have tried this 3 times). Thanks for your help.

I have read something about running Onyx (download from Version tracker) and
rebuilding
the launch services. Some people say this solves the issue but it is not clear
if they
are running 10.6.3
If you system is currently 10.6.3 it may be worth a go. I am a little
reluctant as I
had to rebuild from scratch to revert back to 10.6.2

Thanks for the response, I'll try tonight this solution and report what it
does...or
not. ;)

How did you get on? Does Onyx help?

Hello, sorry for my late response. I have a big problem with a multiboot with
xp and i'm focused on it, so I
have formatted and reinstalled os's several times (I think i'll succeed fast
now), and I haven't had the time
to test with onyx. I think i'll be able to test and post a response the next
week.

So, I finally succeed with my multiboot problem ... but now, I can't reproduce
the
sound issue... Each time I boot mac os, even when it is the first boot, I have
the
sound... But I don't know why, almost when you know that I have reinstall mac
os from
a backup of the installation which had the issue.... If the issue comes back,
I'll
try Onyx and tell you if it fixes the sound problem or not...

Thanks for that. Out of interest, what are you using to backup your system? I
tried CCC and superduper but both
times I was left with a non bootable system. I may bite the bullet and install
the update.

I have now installed NBI 0.3.4 RC1 on OSX 10.6.2 and this problem emerged. It
would appear that the update to
10.6.3 is not the cause. Running Onyx (see earlier posts) and rebuilding the
launch services seems to fix the
problem. I have since updated to 10.6.3, re-run NBI 0.3.4 rc1 and onyx. The
issue appears to be fixed. I will be
continuing to monitor this.

To backup my system, I simply use disk utility booting from the mac os DVD
modified with
netbookbootmaker. There is just a verification to do before restore the dmg
file created, but this
verification is done simply by clicking in the top menu. You can't use disk
utility if you are booting from
your HDD because some of the files are in use in this case.

This should probably be marked as a duplicate of issue 244...
