• Produce an evaluation report describing the usage, workload demands, and necessity of core AWS services over the past 6 months, provided to CTEC’s Director and Programming Coordinator. Within the evaluation, suggest services that can be optimized (scaled down (rightsized) or deprecated) without impacting critical operations.
• After review with CTEC’s Director and Programming Coordinator, implement optimizations and necessary cost-saving measures within acceptable performance bands.
• Update all necessary workflows and prepare technical documentation. 
• With the Programming Coordinator, implement tools to monitor cloud usage and costs, enabling proactive identification of cost inefficiencies in the future.

FYI Melvin Ollewagen , I created this task to track Valentine’s work on this (Valentine to complete via contract work), and we can attach his report here at a later stage.

Assigning to Melvin, but Valentine will complete (need to look at giving Valentine contractor’s access to Jira so we can assign him to this directly.)

Melvin’s thoughts:

Take a data driven approach from the cost estimation tool and see what services we can scale down and deprecate.

Try use cost optimization hub in aws and see if we can implement any suggestions therein making use of savings plans etc.

Use any other services in billing and cost management to bring down our aws costs.

See what we can do to bring down costs of the following

• Elastic Container Service
• S3
• Redshift
• Elastic Load Balancing
• Virtual Private Cloud
