I think the best book to learn JavaScript is "Learning JavaScript" by Ethan Brown. It's from the 2016, but it's not outdated. It's still the optimal choice currently, imho.

I'm currently learning with "The Odin Project", but thanks to the guide in this blog, I realize I learn better from a book. I'm deciding whether 'JavaScript for impatient programmers', 'Eloquent Javascript' or the 'YDKJ series'. That advise you give here "don't cherry pick"... man, it makes a lot of sense but is hard to follow.
