Blocking issue: https://github.com/microsoft/winget-cli/issues/140

ErikMogensen commented 4 years ago

By WinGet, do you mean https://github.com/microsoft/winget-cli? It seems to be a way of installing applications. What would the advantage be compared to Chocolatey?

SeanFeldman commented 4 years ago

WinGet is a new Windows Package Manager. The link is the repo the client source. SBE manifest would be registered against https://github.com/microsoft/winget-pkgs.

What would the advantage be compared to Chocolatey?

Baked into the ecosystem and promoted by Microsoft.

SeanFeldman commented 4 years ago

Also, this suggestion is not a replacement for Chocolatey.

ihordyrman commented 2 years ago

Hey, guys. Having ServiceBusExplorer in WinGet would be really great. For example, right now, I don't have anything installed by chocolatey, and I need to have choco only for ServiceBusExplorer. Can you consider adding your application to the WinGet as well?

SeanFeldman commented 2 years ago

@ihordyrman would you have some capacity to assist?

ihordyrman commented 2 years ago

@SeanFeldman, sure, I can help with that this weekend.

ihordyrman commented 1 year ago

With a new version of WinGet 1.3, we can publish stand-alone applications. But it's limited to stand-alone .exe with no dependencies. https://github.com/microsoft/winget-cli/discussions/1887#discussioncomment-2723301.

Fortunately, this pull request should enable support for zip-based portable packages. I hope it will be merged soon.

After that, there should be no blockers for adding ServiceBusExplorer to WinGet.

SeanFeldman commented 1 year ago

That's great news. Incorporating WinGet will be much simpler with the introduction of Zip support as we already produce a zip package. Hopefully, that PR is merged and released soon.

SeanFeldman commented 1 year ago

The PR was merged 🎉 Getting closer to being unblocked, @ihordyrman.

ihordyrman commented 1 year ago

Awesome! I will try to publish ServiceBusExplorer to WinGet this week

SeanFeldman commented 1 year ago

What would be better is to send a PR to set up our deployment pipelines to do that whenever a new version is published. Similar to what's done with Chocolatey here.

I can work with you on the PR to ensure it works.

@SeanFeldman, I'm sorry, but I have too many irons in the fire this weekend. Unfortunately, I haven't found any time for this task. You might want to give this task to someone else because I don't know when I will be available.

SeanFeldman commented 1 year ago

Looking at how to build that manifest.
