Hi @arvnedumaran - how many people do you currently have interested and do you have any additional personnel who will be assisting with the chapter? We usually like to have at least 2 or more organizers for a chapter.
How many people are interested? Based on a very informal poll, we have about 15 people who will come to the first meetup.
And @tchinmai7 will be assisting with the chapter as well.
@hakutsuru lets do the same thing we did with Rio for https://github.com/papers-we-love/chennai - removing the current organizers from the team and adding @arvnedumaran and @Tchinmai7
@arvnedumaran have you tried reaching out to @ganesh-srinivas of Chennai?
Hey! The lack of meetups is my fault entirely (moving permanently to the city -- I was just an intern here until a few months ago, wrapping up side projects). So, activity has been restricted to word of mouth and offline discussions.
I was working on organizing the next meetup (paper: survey of Deep Learning by Bengio, LeCun, Hinton with two possible venues). I've been holding off due to the small number of informal RSVPs (5 people).
@arvnedumaran : Since you have kindled much more interest for your paper (correct me if I'm wrong), I'd love to help you out with organizing the meetup.
@DarrenN and @hakutsuru : I'd really like to remain a part of PWL Chennai. Can you take a call on changing organizers after this next meetup is done?
@ganesh-srinivas @arvnedumaran we'd prefer if you worked together on the Chapter using the existing setup.
@ganesh-srinivas -- I have invited you as Admin for the chennai chapter repo, which allows you to add other collaborators.
@arvnedumaran, @Tchinmai7 -- Have you been able to work with Ganesh? If you were interested in starting a different chapter, perhaps you could open another issue... (This is not to encourage competition, but more to empower different community groups to set their own agendas and schedules.)
I am closing this for now, but from email discussions, it seems the Chennai area could soon have more than one PWL chapter. Feel free to leave new comments, or open other issues.
Hello!
I'm Arvind Nedumaran, software engineer in Chennai, India. We already have a Chennai chapter which is now defunct (very similar to the Rio chapter). I'd like to revive the Chennai chapter of Papers We Love. Based on a quick poll I conducted, there's definitely interest here.
I'd like to know what you guys think.
Regards, Arvind Nedumaran
