Probably just an xscreensaver (or similar) theme would work

Not familiar with it, but xscreensaver sounds rather X11-specific. We'll need to look into what other Wayland desktops are doing for screensavers.

This also might not be shell-specific, but for now this repo is an okay place to track this feature.

Apparently, weston already comes with screensaver support by default

What is the point of a screen saver? Why not just lock the session and put the screen to sleep?
