Multiple build hang on Mac OSX #266

I thought the most recent build addressed this problem already, but it doesn't.

@jsdenson - was this fixed in v1.0.52? Using 1.0.51 I can indeed duplicate this condition on OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) and also on OS X 10.12 (Sierra).
