We got an email response, and found that the commandline interface can download a project, but it's not clear how often that gets updated. Following up email for more information

Here's my current understanding of how Caesar works. I need to clear up some issues with the devs, but this is a start.

• When an image is classified, it is streamed to the Caesar API.
• The extractor identifies classifications made on an image (flag: boolean, survey: float) and passes them as key value pairs (ie. {possible_transient: True} or {objects: 4}).
• The count reducer consolidates these into a dictionary. Custom reducers can also be passed in, which can perform calculations on the extracted classifications to prepare them for checking retirement rules.
• Retirement rules are set and the classifications are passed in. If the classifications don't pass the retirement test, nothing happens and the image stays on Zooniverse. Otherwise, Caesar tells Panoptes to retire the image and it's deleted from Zooniverse (I'm not sure how that part actually happens).
