How does this compare to the cloud server? #78

How does this compare to the cloud server? This repo is 2 years old.

Particle seems promising very much but having the server closed source is a big tradeoff. We suppose to buy an cloud platform closed source and then are locked in with particle if we plan to build a product from this?
