HD tiles for retina-grade screens
Western tiles (with arabic numbers for "character tiles")
Tarot-style
Less symbolic dragons
1 bamboo as 1 stick, not confusing flower/bird/whatever that is

Tiles are Unicode codepoints, so should just be able to use different fonts for different styles. Linux includes a font with good outline vector mahjong tiles, so bundle that subset as fallback default? And then make up a few colour/custom fonts.

Can also use normal font fallback and opentype alternates mechanisms to enable modifications on tilesets, e.g. dragon style, 1 bamboo style, etc.
