small fixes for the demo #166

These changes get the demo running again. While developing I've found it helpful to have the demo locally for comparison.

Quick note: I updated the commit messages to include a colon after the qualifier, i.e.. docs(demo): foo instead of docs(demo) foo. I'm not sure if the changelog parser works with the latter one.
