Goal
Based on some of the upcoming work to support social logins and first time users (non RH customers), we need to improve the existing PF login screen to provide a more ideal user experience.
Background
There are services that are planning to use GitHub logins to reduce the barrier of entry to our platform, and the current design is not clear that the icons below the input field are actually a way to leverage those social logins. Additionally, last fall (2022), there was feedback during a developer F2F that sited the login page always assumes that our users have a RH login. Can we think through additional approach that may better support first time use.
Feedback to consider on social login during Demo meeting: GitHub registration for Stone Soup (on 2/14)
Explore if we can personalize the dialog based on user's social login
This depends on the UX flow/start which we need designs for, e.g. if there is a marketing page with a “get started via GH” button this could skip the first step of log in flow and go straight to GH
What does the page look like when no account is linked? Single or multiple accounts are linked? How do we prompt to link others?
Once user logs in with a social account, hide remaining social icons at future login attempts?
Requirements
Competitive research - take a look at existing examples and see what is working well and what is not
Explore 2-3 different ways to improve the social login experience on the login screen
Explore 2-3 different ways to make it more clear that there is an option to create an account (ex. the create account CTA is really small)
Make necessary updates so it aligns with PatternFly's login pattern.
Tooltip over social icons are currently incorrect
Ask PF team if there is research behind terminology of login pattern
Should we use "login" or "sign in"
Work with the PF team on refining the designs and incorporating cross-team feedback (CIAM, StoneSoup ...)
