Example possibly missing some assets? #1

Hey there, I went to check this out and it was not doing anything when ran, and I noticed that all of the mesh filters are missing, so there is no ground. Is this intended or was it missed when uploading? What did you use to actually fracture it, and is there any sort of required settings in doing so for compatibility?

Thanks, -MH

Hello!

What is your Unity version? I did this using 2021.1.7f1 and HDRP. The mesh was fractured using blender. I just tried to pull the project to a brand new folder here and it is working as intended.

You can try to delete the fracturedGroundNoY object and drag from the the assets folder a new one. Put the GroundFracture material to all of the childs and run again.

Also, set the parent position and rotation all to 0, 0, 0.

Hope it helps! :)

I appreciate the reply. I opened the project with 2021.1.22f1 HDRP. I figured that should be ok? I can try to download 7f1 just in case that ends up being the cause.

I am wondering if the import settings for the fracturedGroundNoY object got goofed up, either when committing the repo, or when I cloned it, as I was going to replace the object as you suggested, but trying to drag the object in the scene does not work.

These are the settings it has when I opened the project. I tried to reimport just that asset, but it didn't help.

Oh! Got the problem!

Probably you don't have blender installed on your PC. Good point!

I updated the project! Now it is using .fbx instead of .blender file!

Ah, makes sense. Though, I do have Blender installed, but I do use Linux and my Blender install is a Flatpak, which I guess might not have made the proper file associations or similar.

I will do a quick pull of the repo and try again.

** Edit -- It's good to go now. I appreciate you taking the time to look into it. :+1:

I might need to look into this technique more. I made this (https://i.imgur.com/fyxfn5b.mp4) a year or two ago trying to learn some VFX stuff and I had used Houdini and Alembic for the ground. The ground alone ended up being something like 1.5-2gb in size. This seems like it could be much more efficient, lol.
