Are you using a Japanese unit? Because I'm experiencing that exact same issue.
No I am using a U.S. system. I think its just as most the documents say. This is a pritty much an alpha and that his demo video is using updated code not in v0.0.3. I would say that once the next patch comes it it should solve it. I'm also looking into the source code to see what I can help with but my experience is in web development and I have a lot of documentation to read. Though I did get the playstation scea screen a few times using ether crash bandicoot 3 or Spiro the dragon image.
On Discord, visit the psx dev server and the ODE talk section. Picostation related stuff, including the reasons it doesn't quite work are discussed there. Also some people are working on it on and off :) https://discord.gg/psx-dev-642647820683444236
Thank you. I really want to contribute what I can to this project.
I molded a PlayStation with a early pu-8 mobo and did a ssb install. I numerous times checked the original pinouts of the xstation qsb and the picostation and beeped it all out so I'm 99% sure I got that right. The system will not power on without the picostation witch should be normal but with the pico station it will do one of two things. With the lid open it will go to the system menu and all looks normal. I can access the cd player and memory card and nothing is freezing. My memory card is a 256GB Samsung evo with a fat32 partition and files on root named UNIROM and cue edited to point to UNIROM. The system will load and show the white sonny screen and then hang. If I open the lid it won't go the the system menu. I have tried resetting and letting it sit for a bit, know the project is in early development. I ordered some new 32 gig cards to see if it is a compatibility issue but other than that I'm out of ideas for what could be the issue. If I resolve the issue I'll update it so others with the same problem can be informed.
Update: with original memory card I got it to boot an audio cd and play the music off sd once. I think that rules out the sd card compatibility.
