Continuing to try and fix this by resetting the config file, sometimes the
volume icon has no red X and works, it appears to be random. However in the
terminal window, when I try to save the lua http password (after reset) I
always get this message:

error loading script /usr/lib/vlc/lua/intf/http.236: Failed to create HTTPd
file.
