I don't see any mention about increased speed under the what's new section.

I don't think anyone has really benchmarked it. Speed hasn't been a focus - it might be faster, it might not, I honestly don't know. If you believe it is, and have data to back it up, feel free to add that to the wiki. The point of a wiki is that anyone can edit it.
